The Early Lab (est. 2022) is a research group that studies the impact of early adversity on early childhood mental health and identifies early prevention and intervention approaches that promote resilience.

Based in the School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) we partner with community organizations, clinicians, and individuals with lived experience to contribute to the best possible start for children and their families.

Our Core Values

We believe addressing early adversity is a collaborative endeavour. We collaborate with Individuals with lived experience, families, community partners, clinicians, and researchers to understand the impacts of early adversity, how to prevent it, and how to address it. We believe every voice matters.

We are committed to listening and engaging in relationships that are welcoming, accepting, and respectful. We believe that diversity in all forms strengthens our ability to conduct rigorous, impactful, and relevant science.

We are committed to bridging the gap between science and practice. We share with and learn from our partners in research.

We believe practice and policy should be informed by the best available science. We conduct high-quality research to inform decision-making to best support children and their families.
